![]() ![]() ![]() Fantaskey’s protagonist is someone it’d be fun to hang out with over a meal of burgers and ice cream. As always, it’s nice to see a teen female character who isn’t a rehash of the ‘manic pixie dream girl’ or other trope. The main characters exhibit a wealth of human flaws but do so in ways that draw the reader into the story rather than turning them away. The teen romance never devolves into saccharine angst and never upstages the main focus of the novel. “Buzz Kill” is a superbly paced, well-written story, but most of all it is simply an enjoyable read. Even Nancy Drew didn’t work solo, right? But even as she grows closer to Chase, Millie is forced to reevaluate where she’s placed her trust. When Chase offers to assist Millie, on the condition that she not turn prying investigative eyes on him, she has to agree. ![]()
